Opportunity moment in transportation
Aloisi tweet storm: We need to move forward, not backward
1/ The death of Lee Iacocca is a metaphor for the passing of an auto centric era. This great corporate titan of auto-mobility embodied much of the false optimism & bravado that fueled a profoundly unsustainable approach to mobility.

3/ In #mapoli an Administration that appears stuck in 20th century old-think removes HOV lanes, rejects road pricing & resists injecting net new revenue to accelerate repair & modernization of transit & rail.

5/ South Coast Rail is a good idea but the current plan is designed to disappoint & will degrade service on the Old Colony Line unless a second track is built. We’re going to repeat the mistake others have made: building a rail project that doesn’t effectively serve rider needs.

7/ I reject imprudent spending like $3 billion for an unnecessary South Station expansion. We can increase capacity there at a fraction of that cost ( @transitmatters report forthcoming) I support strategic spending on accelereted repair, Regional Rail & transit connectivity.

9/ At the same time we must commit to early build West Station in Allston, early build Red Blue Connector, and a commitment to Regional Rail that starts w/using electric power on the Providence Line.

11/ There’s a lot of good energy on Beacon Hill – the Senate & House are prepared to act in a meaningful & decisive way. Good bills are already queued up to charge Uber & Lyft for their congestion & other impacts. This is an opportunity moment in #mapoli.

13/ I’m confident that we can and will get it right. I’m optimistic because I believe there is a large & growing consensus that old-think & the approaches of the past must give way – they have failed us & there are proven sustainable solutions that will build our future.
— Jim Aloisi (@JimAloisi) July 3, 2019
14/ The future that often lies beyond our vision is not completely beyond our control.
